Horse
of the Year Show, 2008
The Show
Ring members had a tremendous HOYS - not only were there over 20 horses
and ponies belonging to TSR members, but we also had some significant
wins in a variety of classes.
Intermediate
Show Riding Type Champion of the Year - 1st and Champion
Paschal
High Flyer - 6yr old bay gelding owned by Sheila and Hazel Broom and
produced by Team Harvey.
"Despite
me riding Fly in Hack classes all season, and qualifying him
for HOYS, I decided I couldn't cope with the pressure of HOYS and so he
was ridden in the Large Hacks at HOYS by Martin Skelton who produces Fly
along with John Harvey and Greer Taverner. He did amazingly well coming
3rd in the class, a fantstic result as we were just simply hoping for
a rosette!
In the
Large Intermediate Show Riding Type class he was again ridden by Martin
as I am too old for these classes. He did a wonderful show (we later found
out he scored 59/60!) and unbelieveably won the class by 8 marks! A dream
come true for us all, and only bettered by him also winning the championship.
Amazingly emotional day.
Watching
them in the Supreme on Sunday in front of a packed house was wonderful
and an experience none of us will forget. Thank you Fly for being a true
horse of a lifetime for us."
Hack Champion
of the Year - 1st and Champion
Silent
Words - Small Hack - owned by Carman Gridley
"Silent
Words (Vinny) was purchased in the early summer of 2006 by Rob Walker.
Rob was planning on breaking him over the winter so he was turned away
with Hatty for the summer. Vinny was a complete gentleman to break and
he made his showing debut in May 2007 at Cheshire Premier Spring in the
Open Small hack class. It was the first time he had been to a show and
he exceeded all our expectations by winning the class and qualifying for
the RIHS! Vinny's next outing was the novice hack class at Royal Windsor
Oh my goodness he won that too!!! Rob and Vinny finished the most amazing
season by winning the Hack Championship at the National show followed
by a dream that you never dare dream he won the hack title at the Horse
of the Year Show!
Vinny
and Rob have a truly fantastic partnership and having had a quiet end
part to the season they went on to win the small hack and the championship
at Horse of the Year show - WOW!!! Sarah and Robert Walker are great friends
and have worked so hard with Vinny to achieve results that are truly gobsmacking!
Karl and I will never be able to thank them enough. The last thanks must
go to Vinny himself a true gentleman in and out of the stable and a horse
of a million lifetimes."

Eurocenter
Cleo - owned by Rebecca Slinn
"Eurocenter
Cleo 16.3, is a 6 year old mare by Pedro. We qualified for HOYS in May
at Chaps Richmond. Really pleased with her first proper ridden season
and couldnt have asked for a better performance from her at HOYS."
Coloured
Horse - 2nd Non Native Coloured Horse
Heathersedge
Eurovision (Buffy) - owned by Kerrie Ibbotson
"Buffy is
a homebred 6 year old mare. We have had a fairly torrid time with her
this season, discovering she had a badly bruised sole at the beginning
of June and missing all but the final 3 qualifiers with her as she did
not come out again until the beginning of August. She has been home produced
this season by myself and my sister, Laurie, who rode her in the qualifiers
and the final at HOYS, and as we both work fulltime it has been very difficult.
Buffy is not our only horse we show, Tiara her best friend also qualified
for the same class at HOYS and so have 2 girls there together was very
exciting but also very tricky as they are very attached to each other.
Buffy was 2nd at HOYS in 2007 and again was pipped to the post this season
and came 2nd again, this time to Red Andes."

novice cob class at Cheshire.
In August
we went to Ponies UK and he got 1st in pollyanna amateur rider, 3rd in

went to Alwyne Fradley for breaking and producing. He's an ISH out of
an ID mare by Cavalier Two for Joy. We decided earlier this year that
as he was so mannerly he may suit being a Ladies Hunter so Jane Cooper
came to try him and she agreed to ride him for us.
His first
show as a Ladies was Derby Festival of Showing in June where he didn't
disgrace himself! Second time out was Great Yorks where he was 3rd, 3rd
time out was National Side Saddle Show where he was 2nd and qualified
for HOYS. He then went to the National Hunter Champs and was 2nd and experienced
first evening performance. Then it was off to HOYS where he exceeded all
our expectations and came 5th. He'll stay with Al for the winter and has
been cubbing and will do some hunting before it all starts again next

Linda Hallet out of Somerset Morn A Yorkshire Owned Horse!!"
SFAS Cobs
Collier
- owner Nikki Reeder
"Collier
and I had the most amazing time at HOYS coming 2nd in the Search for a
Star Cob Final. Collier arrived from Reid Finlay pretty much untouched
in February 2007 and, despite being a little sharp and a little scary
at times, has exceeded all expectations in a relatively short timescale.
He went to his first show at the beginning of May still very green and
wearing his little rubber snaffle (bless) and just about two months later,
looking very grown up, he qualified for HOYS and fulfilled one of my lifetime
ambitions. Competing at HOYS was every bit as special as I hoped and now
I've had a taste of it, I'd certainly like to do it again one day - hopefully,
with Collier's help, it won't be a one off experience!"
